Blegan - is a Cornish word meaning flower.
Many thanks to Andy Norfolk for all his help with Cornish words.
Robert Morton Nance reckoned the Cornish for flower was blejan or blejen for either a masculine or feminine noun. That means he thought it should have a soft j sound and not a hard g.
Dick Gendall included two spellings in his Student's Dictionary of Modern Cornish - bledhzen and bledzhian.
Ken George in his Gelyver Meur - the latest dictionary for Kernewk Kemmyn - has it spelt bleujenn.
All these versions of the word treat the middle consonant(s) as a soft sound.
The second vowel would be a short 'e' in all I think despite Dick Gendall's second alternative.
The only difference between all these is a slight variation in pronunciation of the first vowel sound.
In Morton Nance's Unified Cornish there was no guidance as to pronunciation from the spelling,
but his 'e' in blejan would probably be a short sound as in the English word 'bet.'
The same is true for Late/Modern Cornish.
In Kernewek kemmyn however the 'eu' would be pronounced as in the French word 'peur.'
